Summer Holiday 2016 Skin Care Plans!

Holiday 2016 Skin Care Packing

This year my boyfriend and myself have been very diligent and have booked our summer holiday a whole 5 months in advance! A shocker since I am uncharacteristically laid back when it comes to booking holidays- a self confessed avid booker! Anyway what I CANNOT leave to the last minute is planning my skincare. With luggage space at a premium I am loathed to have to scale down my usual over packing of primers, cleansers and moisturisers. However I have whittled it down to my must-have cannot leave the country without skin care. We are going to Chania, Crete which is Greek island so the weather is bound to be sunny and glorious. I am looking forward to a holiday which is both relaxing and educating. I have always wanted to visit an island city where its architectural remains highlight the different periods of rule. And what better way to learn history than to see it in person.

The current weather situation is a cloudy and rainy 4 degrees Celsius. Bring on the heat!!

Neals Yard Facial Wipes £5.50

These are a must have for me as perfect for refreshing after a long day in the sun. I would pack the facial mist however it is in a glass bottle and would be a breakage hazard! These are perfect for the plane and I will be throwing these in my beach bag!

NY Wipes

Sun Lotion/SPF

Ultra Sun Extreme (top) £20 Lip Balm (bottom) £6 and Face (middle) £20

I have to say skimping on sun lotion is not something I am okay with. Investing in a high quality long lasting SPF is going to protect from both short term and long term damage from the sun. Anti-aging starts from a good SPF!

Liz Earle Travel Set £25

I am a Liz Earle advocate and have been for many years. Cleanse and Polish has transformed my skin. I also continue my skincare routine when going away as my skin does not take too kindly to change. The soothing Chamomile and Cocoa Butter will help with any of the after effects of the warmer climate.

What are your skin care must-haves? Have you ever visited Crete?

Back to University Skin Care For Guys and Gals

So for many universities freshers week is upon us! Across the country we are packing up belongings, that favourite teddy bear and saying farewell to loved ones. Not for me, however, I chose to stay at home for the duration of my history degree but I know all too well the stresses of university life. What to pack? Do I really need all these pots and pans? These are the sorts of things I see littered over Facebook and Twitter. So to make life easier I thought why not get that skincare box checked for you. I know for some students skincare comprises of showergel and shampoo and maybe a spot treatment but it is very important to get this right. Your freshers week will most likely leave you with skin the texture of sandpaper and the colour of your halls carpet. So sit up and pay attention, here are some must have products to keep your skin looking its best.

A good cleanser will help remove dead skin, wash away oils and rebalance the skins natural state. For an oily and acne prone skin I would recommend going into Boots and picking up La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel For Oily Sensitive Skin (£10.21). This is perfect for leaving in the shower and is a clear gel which you can work into water on the face. It wont irritate the skin but will help prevent break outs and control any oil on the t-zone. Follow up with the moisturizer, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (£9.75) and you will be good to go! For a tougher skin try the La Roche-Posay Physiological Ultra-Fine Cleansing Scrub (£9.70) and follow up with LA ROCHE-POSAY HYDREANE Riche (£14.30) if you have a dryer skin.

If you are the type of girl who wants a quick and simple skincare routine then I see no wrong in following the above advice for your male counterparts.  La Roch Posay is a great brand that worked wonders for my acne prone skin in first year. However, if you are a make-up wearer then you know all too well the importance of removing it before any form of face wash. There are two options for you in this case. 1. A micellar solution to remove makeup and follow on with a  creamy or clarifying wash. 2 A cream cleanser that will remove make up and also cleanse the skin. Depending on your budget, time allowance and general commitment to a skincare routine will shape the route you take. Here are some great products you can find in the aisles of Boots.

L’Oreal Paris Skin Perfection Miceallar Solution (£3.33). Apply onto a cotton pad and sweep away your makeup. Perfect for those late nights, and a great alternative to evil face wipes which can play havoc on tired skin.  Follow up with Aveeno® Positively Radiant Daily Exfoliating Cleanser (£5.99) and Aveeno® Positively Radiant Daily Skin-Brightening Moisturiser SPF15 (£9.99). These will work great for an acne prone skin but also for a normal skin too!

Option number two is using a cream cleanser to remove your make up whilst caring for your skin.  A great one is Soap & Glory™ The Ultimelt™ Deep Purifying Hot Cloth Cleanser (£6.67). This you can massage into the skin and have a real pamper session.

Hope you have an amazing time at university whether you are starting first year or going back into second or third! I also hope this has given some insight into what is out there for your skin. If in doubt have a wonder around Boots or Superdrug and see what you can find.

Byeeeee x

July Favourites

photo (12)

July has rushed past so quickly! But here are some of my favourite beauty bits and bobs of the month when England had some serious sun!

Elemis Pro Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm (full size £32.00)

This stuff is incredible! I use this on days where I want that fresh faced look! It is a great moisturiser, primer and radiance booster! It is designed for more mature skin but I love a good heavy duty skin product anyway. I received this as a freebie in a magazine on my travels and absolutely love it! My mum is also a huge fan, which is a shock as she is a skin care newbie!

L’occitane Immortelle Precious Cream (full size £43.00)

Woah there, £43? I know, exactly what I thought! I know I am only 20 but this moisturiser just may well be the best that is out there for me. I have skin prone to dullness that gets dehydrated super fast! L’occitane really made a fantastic product here and just may well be my favourite product of theirs. Fairly thick in consistency it stimulates collagen production and it boosts micro-circulation to boost skin renewal. Main ingredient: Coriscan plant.

These two products have seriously brightened my skin and made no make up days super easy! Before I wouldn’t even consider going to the shops without my usual slap on. With these sidekicks at my side I feel confident!

Garnier Summer Body – why I’m a gradual tanner convert!

So let’s face it…the weather in the UK has been totally predictable, amazing sun one day, downpour the next! So I decided that the odds of a back garden tanning extravaganza were slim this year! I have no amazing holiday abroad booked (although I’m still up for any offers to somewhere nice). I have very pale skin and a shed load of summer dresses I want to at least pretend I can get away with.

In the aisles of ASDA this beauty caught my eye. I have had terrible experiences with gradual tanners in my early teenage years (orange skin, streaks and an awful smell) so I was still sceptical of Garniers Summer Body. I had watched some YouTubers say this one was the best of the drugstore gradual tanners with a milder tanning scent, non orange colour and lasting power so I thought, why not?

I bought the deep sun kissed look as recommendations said the lighter one would not produce a noticeable tan (any agreements?). Any way, I started using it the next day and I can honestly say it started a love affair with my newly tanned skin. I started using it on my legs (as this was the place I could easily cover up if things went badly 😛 ) and moved to my arms. I have to say there is a fake tan scent but depending on your sensitivity to the smell will depend how you get on with it. I apply it after my morning shower and then my evening shower gets rid of the remaining scent without damaging the colour you develop.

I noticed a change in the colour of my skin from about the second application. This again is the deep sun kissed look and the colour can develop very dark if you apply every day. I would recommend applying every other day once you have built up a noticeable colour.

Overall, I’m converted! It sinks in to the skin well with no residue so you can put your clothes on pretty quickly! I purchased it in ASDA for £2.50 which is a bargain considering the results! Love the apricot scent and will definitely be using this all year round. Now I just need to find a good facial tanner. Any suggestions?

Surprise Loccitane Gift

There is nothing quite like being gifted a beauty product. My best friend turned up to my door today to hand back a DVD (Friends with Kids, great film) and also gave me this L’occitane Verbena Discovery Kit ! Totally what I need after a stressful few weeks of non stop revising and panicking over this exam! The Verbena line at L’occitane is definitely a fragrance for some people. As soon as your lift the top off a bottle you are hit with a wonderful sherbet and lemon scent. Perfect for summer and I will be using this the morning of my exam to kick start my day. Thank you to my wonderful friend for always being there and remembering my absolute love affair with L’occitane!

Weekend Away Travel Packing

Now I don’t know about you but packing your bags to go away for a few days can either be super easy or the most difficult thing. Picking between make up products, skin care products is like trying to chose your favourite child- well not that bad but you get my drift. But here are my choices and I think I’ve chosen wisely, let me know if I’ve missed anything major!

Revlon Nearly Naked First Impressions

I have resisted temptation as I sit here eager to open this gorgeous new foundation. I have just purchased Revlon’s Nearly Naked Foundation which hit the stores earlier this year. It claims to have buildable coverage which is light and fresh leaving a ‘no makeup makeup’ look! Perfect!

I’m going to be using the remnants of my Embryolisse cream as a base and work it in with my Real Techniques stippling brush. I like to leave my moisturiser to set on my face for a little while before I apply my foundation so in the meantime I shall listen to this beautiful cover of ‘I want it that way’ by Landon Austin and Julia Sheer:

The Application

I’ve swapped my brush to a Real Techniques expert face brush just because I feel that brush has blended the product in better. I have to say the coverage is impressive but will need the extra work of a concealer in some areas. This foundation also smells pretty good! But be warned, if you’re used to any other Revlon foundations being a thicker consistency be aware this one is very liquidy! When I swatched this in Superdrug I spilt about 5 applications worth on the back of my hand!

I have chosen to team this up with my NARS Laguna Bronzer and it is the perfect compliment to the foundation. You could use the Bourjois Bronzer if you are on a budget!

The Verdict

Love it! Definitely a day time foundation as the coverage is on the lighter side of medium coverage for me. Perfect if you were going for a lunch date as it is really natural coverage but the staying power is there if you need it!

Gold Star Revlon. A company that started in 1932 with a nail enamel has certainly developed in leaps and bounds!

Bluewater Haul

liz earle nars bourjois

So a few weeks ago I took a trip to Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent and picked up a few things.

Recently, I have been so impressed with my skills of not falling to impulse purchases and so all of these products I fully planned to buy before hand.

I also had my first experience in a Space. NK store which I loved! My new favourite beauty store hands down! The staff were super friendly and I felt really at ease. It sounds silly but I often feel out of my depth in some big department stores where the counters almost appear to laugh at your inexperience with their brand. But I loved Space N.K for being open and inviting! Big thumbs up!

Anyway, I picked up my cult favourite Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish with the skin tonic along with a travel kit for summer! I took out the two mini sizes of the moisturiser and the brightening mask for myself as I probably wont be using them as much when I travel. However, I will be purchasing the full size of the mask as I love it. After a few uses I can see a difference in the clarity and tone of my skin. I picked these beauties up from John Lewis.

My first NARS purchase also happened on this trip in Space N.K and I am so happy it was a bronzer. I have been meaning to purchase my first bronzer for so long but never had the guts too. I have very pale skin so I always thought bronzers weren’t for me. Anyway, this beauty did set me back £26 but it is great for really warming up my skin tone without being muddy or orange. If you are in the market for your first or a new bronzer I would definitely consider it. There are some great drugstore alternatives which I will write a blog post on as soon as I get my hands on them.

The Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation was also on my list to purchase. At £9.99 I think it is a great buy for anyone who loves a dewy, healthy finish to their skin. My only problem with this product is that it is a tad too dark for my skin. I love the consistency and how it looks and the coverage is great and lasts a good amount of time. I will definitely be repurchasing this but in the lightest shade.

Spring Skin Routine

Even though the weather is refusing to show any signs of heating up I thought I would encourage it by talking about a spring skin routine. I chose a cleanser, foundation and a setting spray for this post as I think these three really compliment each other well

La Roche- Posay Rosaliac Micellar Make-up Removal Gel – £12.00 (Boots)

I wanted to chose both a make-up remover and a cleanser as these products can really make or break skin during the spring and summer months. Whilst the weather in England is not exactly Cannes right now I know that a simple, light and purifying cleansing gel is a nice break from a heavy winter cleanser such as my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. This cleanser can be applied with either a cotton wool pad or fingers (I prefer the latter) and can be massaged into the face and then wiped off. It removed all of my make-up and left my skin feeling extremely clean yet not tight or stripped. This particular cleanser comes from their line of skin care for redness-prone, sensitive skin which is perfect for me! I love the texture and finish it gives to the skin which makes a perfect base for product number 2!

No.7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream Normal/Dry – £12.95 (Boots)

This BB cream is a wonder worker on most skin types and even covered redness around my cheeks from acne scarring. It has a build able quality to it which means it is adaptable to my skin for when I need more or less coverage.  As with most BB creams and foundations it has an SPF of 15 making it perfect for sunny days but doesn’t leave the skin overly dewy. Because I wanted a natural looking finish I loved the fact that it leaves a very light sheen on the areas you want.

Urban Decay De Slick Oil Control Make-up Setting Spray – £19.50 (House of Fraser)

Setting your foundation is an important step for anyone looking to keep their make up looking good all day. This step could easily be skipped if you do not have particularly oily skin or are one of those lucky few whose make up magically stays put in all weathers (we know who you are 😉 ). Anyway, this setting spray is a costly but a must have step because it avoids the powdered finish most setting products give. If you want a dewy yet natural looking finish perfect for spring then this is your hero product!

The Perfect Budget Weekend Away Pamper- from Boots!

So I have just returned from a relaxing weekend away in Leicester which was much needed due to a stressful week at university. Meetings, presentations and a general hectic schedule left my body aching and in need of a pamper. Of course as a student I do not really have the funds to go for a spa day or the know- how of what to get done so I decided to do some pamper shopping of my own. Before I checked into my hotel I found a local Boots store and went in with a £10 budget to buy some mini goods which I could use in the evening before bed. I over spent by £2.79 but I think it was well worth it. Considering if I purchased all of these products in their full size form would have set me back £36.25 I think it was a bargain!I was pleasantly surprised at what I found and the value of it too! So lets jump in to what I bought!

shower gel

Champney’s Citrus Blush Mini Shower Gel (50ml) £2.50

I love, love, love this shower gel. I remember using it a few years back but couldn’t remember the name of it until I found it in Boots. A little goes a long way and it is just heavenly! I love anything citrus and this is the perfect example of a well balanced citrus shower gel, not too fruity or sweet this one is just right. Full Product £6.00.

Sanctuary Mini Spa Essentials Body Scrub (50ml) £2.50

This product has a nice zingy scent and works well as a daily body scrub, I wasn’t overly impressed but for £2.50 it worked better on my face as an exfoliator. This is great on the body to relieve stress and just generally smooths the skin. As a luxury product I thought it was well worth the purchase. Full product price is £5.50.

Champney’s Distant Shores Mini Body Butter (50ml) £2.50

This is a beautifully textured body butter with a really light and fruity scent. I love the size of the tub especially as I am not a huge fan of big thick moisturisers but this is perfect as I will probably use it up over the course of the month. I love how it sinks into the skin quickly and leaves your skin noticeably softened. Big thumbs up for this product. The full size version costs £10.

Sanctuary 5 minute Thermal Detox Mask (15ml) £3.00

This for me was my hero product of the haul. I wanted something completely different from any other mask I have ever tried and knowing the wonders of Charcoal I thought I would give it a go. It goes on warm and heats up on the skin which does feel odd at first but I promise you it does not burn. I left it on for the full five minutes whilst I sipped Rose wine in the bath and when I took it off I was amazed. It left my skin super soft and visibly clearer. I would definitely purchase this again but perhaps the full size version (£10.50) as the sachet was difficult to open.

hair mask

Natural Collection Samphire and Sea Minerals Hydrating Hair Mask (10ml) £1.00

This was my bargain of the lot, a hair mask for £1.00. I wanted to try something cheap and cheerful and I was not disappointed. Lovely texture but not too thick, smells devine! Great gift idea if you are on a budget or girls night in treat.

Simple Kind To Skin Facial Cleansing Wipes (7s) £1.29.

I do not recommend these as a luxury pampering product, I merely include them as they are what I purchased in the haul and I forgot to pack my cleanser (bad Emily). They worked well, but I do not use these on  a daily basis. Full size £3.25.
